Specific Details The aim of this engagement was to advocate for the creation of an Independent Commissioner for Older People, who would serve as a dedicated advocate and representative for the older population in Ireland.

Intended results When asked about the possibility of appointing an Independent Commissioner for Ireland, Minister Butler, who holds the responsibility for older people, stated her plans to present legislation for a statutory home care scheme to the Dáil in the early months of 2024. When pressed on the matter, Minister Butler underscored that the appointment of a Commissioner is a matter for the Oireachtas.
