Specific Details The Defence (Amendment) Bill 2024 was published on the 25 Apr 24. Prior to the publishing of the Bill, RACO wrote to and met with a range of politicians to seek changes to the wording of the Bill in the areas of RACO activities & membership, make up of the External Oversight Body (DF) and the extent of restrictions being placed on RACO and its members as a consequence of ICTU associate membership.

Intended results 1. To ensure that RACO could continue to function in its current manner and guise. 2. To ensure that named DF appointments could remain as RACO members. 3. To ensure that no further DF appointments would be restricted from RACO membership. 4. To ensure that the EOB(DF) remains independent, autonomous and balanced. 5. To ensure that members of the DF could participate in normal civil society activities.
