Intended results
Tralee Chamber Alliance held a debate with the upcoming candidates for the Tralee Municipal District for the local elections. Tralee Chamber sent a survey to their members with the following questions. Q1 Which of the following is most important to you? Choices are Small Business Grants, Active Travel, Town Centre First, Tackling Vacancy/Dereliction and the top 3 responses were Tackling Vacancy, Town Centre and small business grants.
Q2. Has your business been impacted by rate increases? The majority of responses said yes 54.55%. Q3. What are the challenges currently facing your business? The members said rising costs, anti-social behaviour, accommodation, skilled employees, inflation, tourism, Gardaí. Q4. Rank from 1-5 the most important social issues you would like to see a Local Election Candidate priortise? In Housing the majority went with Rank 1 (41.18%), Local Transport the majority went with Rank 3 (32.35%),
Increase in Garda presence the majority went with Rank 1 (38.24%), Sustainability the majority went with Rank 5 (35.29%), Community Facilities the majority went with Rank 5 (38.24%). Q5. Rank from 1-5 traits you look for in a Local Election candidate? Communication skill the majority went with Rank 3(32.35%), Problem Solving majority went with Rank 1 (38.24%), Education/Knowledge went with rank 5 (32.25%), Honesty went with Rank 1 & 2 (26.47%, Active in Community went with Rank 5 (44.12%).
Q6. Do you believe that the Town Centre First initiative is doing enough to support local businesses? The majority of responses said No, the feedback was they didn't know what Town Centre First initiative is. Q7. Do you believe there is enough being done to tackle Vacancy/Dereliction in Torn Centres and surrounding areas? The majority responses is No (91.18%).
Q8. Summarise what you want to see from a Local Election candidate if elected to serve on Kerry County Council? The business responses were address social issues, Improve links to the county, give support to businesses, investments, employment, etc.
