On 4/3/25 Padraig O’Sullivan TD raised a PQ to the Minister for Finance regarding the VAT treatment of gluten-free products. The Minister stated that “gluten-free products are treated the same as their gluten-containing equivalents,”. Unfortunately this is inaccurate. Not all bread is zero-rated. A significant number of GF breads are currently taxed at VAT of 13.5%, unlike standard gluten-containing bread which is zero-rated. This is discriminatory.
