Specific Details Budget 2026 and electric vehicles - the key issues for SIMI in Budget 2026 include taxation and incentive policy in relation to motor vehicles, particularly Electric Vehicle (EV) Supports and EV charging infrastructure

Intended results Extension of the current Government supports for Electric Vehicles beyond 2025. This includes SEAI purchase and home charger grants, VRT relief for EVS, BIK thresholds, while also increasing funding for the public charging infrastructure. In addition, explore the possibility of adding new targeted supports and an Employee Salary Sacrifice Scheme for EVs.

The Minister and SIMI jointly launched the green-flash registration plate for EVs on June 25th outside Government Buildings, at which we highlighted the Motor Industry's issues in relation to EVs for Budget 2026.
