Specific Details
Brazilian Meat Ban
Intended results
To welcome the announcement by the EU Commission that Brazilian meat imports will be banned in the EU from September 3rd, unless Brazil demonstrates compliance withe the bloc's rules on antimicrobial resistance.
To highlight that during an IFA and IFJ investigation into Brazilian meat last year any amount of antibiotics were freely available without any details of the animal type or symptoms, a prescription or farm identifier.
To highlight that the Brazilian authorities do not have a good track record of compliance with EU auditors and trade requirements as evidenced by the finding of the DG Sante inspections.
To emphasise that there must be a comprehensive database of all bovine animals in the country to allow prescribing of antibiotics for farm animals and the infrastructure must then be built around that to incoproprate prescribing, dispensing and treatment records similar to what is in the EU.
