SWAP Little Bray community group
Lobbying activity
The following activities occurred for this specific Subject Matter Area.
Email (51-100)
The first 32 outlining our concerns about our floodplain. The rest mostly to invite or remind county councillors about the meetings described below.
Phone call (51-100)
Around 50 calls or texts to county councillors following up on our invitation to the meetings outlined below.
Meeting (6-10)
We held an information meeting in each Municipal District (Arklow and Wicklow were amalgamated) regarding flooding, floodplains, and what happens when flood defences fail, as councillors outside our Municipal District (and some within) would have no knowledge of our situation in Little Bray. We asked councillors to consider these facts when voting as to whether to return our floodplain to its original Open Space zoning in the 2017 Local Area Development Plan for Bray & Environs. We had been asking for permission to address the County Council since last January, but were told each time by officials that we could only talk to our own Municipal councillors (even though all 32 would vote on it): eventually the councillors themselves proposed meeting us separately to hear our concerns, as we had not been allowed address them in the Council Chamber. We also met 4 councillors, who had been unable to attend any of the District meetings, separately, and made the same presentation to them.
Letter (100+)
Around 220 letters/petitions from residents which we presented to the Cathaoirleach of Bray Municipal District, asking councillors to rezone the floodplain. Also 2 letters to an elderly councillor who does not use email, repeating the invitation we had sent by email to the other 31 councillors.
Social Media (6-10)
Online petition on change.org, promoted on our FB page addressed to Wicklow County Council re zoning. Also addressed to Ministers but concerning purchasing the floodplain, not rezoning. Also petition updates via change.org.
