Social Justice Ireland made a series of recommendations re • A life cycle approach to policy and strategy. • Ensuring every person has sufficient income to live life with dignity and that the social protection system provides all recipients with a minimum social floor. •A balanced active inclusion approach to employment and the Labour Market. Setting ambitious targets for the NAPS and poverty proofing of budgets.

Intended results Ensuring everyone has access to sufficient income to live life with dignity. Integral to the strategy of DEASP should be the presumption that the social protection system provides those reliant on it with a minimum social floor below which they will not fall. DEASP should aim to support decent jobs and work conditions. The National Anti Poverty Strategy must involve ambitious targets and actions to address poverty and disadvantage.

Submission (1)

Submission to consultation on statement of strategy for DEASP. • A life cycle approach to policy and strategy. • Ensure every person has sufficient income to live life with dignity and that the social protection system should provide all recipients with a minimum social floor. • A balanced active inclusion approach (access to adequate income and quality services and an inclusive labour market including decent work) to employment and labour market policy. • Set ambitious targets for the National Anti-Poverty strategy. • Policy evaluation (both qualitative and quantitative) should be part of the ongoing work of the Department. • The poverty proofing of all budgetary and policy decisions on an ex-ante basis and on an annual basis should be an integral part of Department policy.
