Specific Details SSE hosted a delegation of representatives from Wicklow County Council and representatives of shipping and marine services companies based out of Arklow and Wicklow Town to Wick in Northern Scotland to visit SSE’s 588MW Beatrice Offshore Windfarm project, currently being developed in the Moray Firth.

Intended results To give attendees a first-hand impression of offshore wind farm development and to illustrate the opportunity that offshore wind energy represents for economic development and job creation in County Wicklow, in particular for the county's coastal regions including harbours and ports.

Meeting (1)

The trip included a visit to Nigg Energy Park to view the scale of marshalling site required for pre-assembly works; a boat visit to the offshore wind generation site; and a tour of the onshore marine control facilities, new pontoon infrastructure at Wick Harbour, and ongoing construction works for the future O&M base. The trip also comprised presentations on the opportunity for offshore wind energy in Ireland including job creation, regional investment, maritime economic stimulus, and community benefit.
