Specific Details
Our CEO, Heydi Foster-Breslin, was invited by the National Women's Council to speak at the Discussion on Child Poverty at the Joint Committee on Children Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth Debate - Tuesday, 14th Dec 2021 at the House of the Oireachtas (virtually)
Intended results
To advocate for equity of access to education as the key to tackling inter-generational child poverty. Equity meaning that those who are furthest behind should be in a position to access high-quality education, from the early years to lifelong learning and development.
To highlight the need that the Early years Education & Care sector should be funded appropriately to reflect the highly professional and qualified staff that are providing such quality education and care to our children. Early Years Scheme capitation rates need to reflect salary levels that are appropriate for professionals with qualifications, and terms and conditions that allow for paid holidays and occupational pensions.
That the Government's Adult Literacy for Life Strategy is resourced appropriately so that those who are furthest behind can access the literacy supports they need, including digital literacy skills so that that the digital divide does not widen and that parents can create as a result pass on digital literacy skills to their children.
To highlight the impact of Covid 19 on women and children and to advocate for them that the Government must invest in social and community providers so they can offer real time responsive supports to help children and communities recover.
