Specific Details A meeting to introduce MEP Cuffe to Calor Ireland and parent SHV Energy. To discuss how we can contribute to meeting the ambitious European climate objectives by 2050, in the context of the Fit for 55 package and the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and its potential impact on rural off-grid energy consumers. Also to highlight progress of renewable liquid gas development and the successful adoption of renewable BioLPG in homes and businesses across Ireland and the EU to date.

Intended results To highlight the needs of rural energy consumers located beyond the natural gas grid, concerning the proposed Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and its potential impact on the many homes and businesses in Ireland and across Europe making the switch from solid fuels and oil to lower carbon LPG gas and renewable BioLPG. To highlight our concern that a 'one-size-fits-all' approach based on electrification fails to consider the diversity of the EU’s building stock and the different needs of rural and off-gas-grid households and businesses. We advocated for a mixed technology approach to EPBD: use the potential of electricity as well as renewable liquid gases to decarbonise rural buildings. To outline our sector’s position and several proposed amendments to the proposed EPBD, to ensure that rural off-grid consumers using lower carbon and renewable gas, are represented.

E mail communication with MEP Cuffe's office to request and arrange the meeting. Follow up e mail post meeting with some data references as a follow up.

1 x meeting at EU Parliament, Brussels.

Submission (2-5)

Prior to the meeting, we shared the SEAI National Heat Study Bioenergy Chapter with MEP Cuffe's office, together with a copy of the LPG sectoral position paper on the EPBD. Post the meeting, we shared some SHV Energy data references, including detail of renewable gas development investment activity; an SHV EPBD position paper and a copy of an open letter from the Future of Rural Energy in Europe (FREE) to Members of the European Parliament on the EPBD proposal.
